Fuerteventura is one of the smaller islands of the Canary Islands, although it is still considered one of the seven larger ones. There are about 110,000 inhabitants on the island and the area is about 1,663 km² with 100 km from the southern tip to the north. This means that the connections on the island are good and that it is both easy and cheap to get around with the local buses. Taxis also work well, but if you go from one side of the island to the other, it can of course be a little more expensive.
Islands and beaches
According to itypeusa, Fuerteventura is known for its beautiful and long sandy beaches and since the island also has volcanoes, there are lava beaches to explore. On Fuerteventura there are volcanoes and lures and the red ground and the reminder of the Sahara dunes lie face to face with Spain’s picturesque villages and whirlpools. Visiting Fuerteventura is really something for the adventurous who may want to go hiking in the Mars-like environments or do paragliding and see the island from above. The other side offers sun, sand and sea and it is no wonder that you can sometimes miss the island of West Africa.
At the same time, Fuerteventura has everything that is known about the Canary Islands. You have the climate, the charm, the food, the culture and the joy as well as excellent connections on both roads and sea.
Boating between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote is very convenient and this is recommended if you want to see more of the Canary Islands and not stay in the same place all the time. Other small islands can also be stopped at, such as Isla de Lobos.
Some beaches not to be missed on Fuerteventura are Playa del Matorral in the south which is also a hub for exciting and beautiful migratory birds, Jandia Beach in the south which is also divided into several sections and the beach in Caleta de Fuste which is perfect for children.
Most beaches usually have diving schools and opportunities for water sports and along the coast of Fuerteventura, there are also some old shipwrecks since long ago.
Get to Fuerteventura
There is no direct flight to this island from Sweden but one or two changes must take place. Then you usually first change in Las Palmas or Santa Cruz first and then take Iberia Airlines or instead choose a boat if you prefer. There are also low-cost flights between some major Spanish and Portuguese cities to the islands, but then you must first get to those countries. For more info, read on www.bintercanarias.com. The flights there also go to some extent between the islands, including to Fuerteventura airport.
Holiday destination
In Fuerteventura, it is not necessary to go into the capital Puerto del Rosario, which many actually find lacking in charm. However, there are several tourist destinations such as Corralejo and El Cotillo in the north and Morro Jable in the south. Here it is at the same time more or less nightlife, in Corralejo it is the closest between the bars and discos while it gets calmer in the other places. However, if you want to take a trip to Lanzarote, the boat trip does not take longer than about 20-35 minutes, depending on whether you take the catamaran or the ferry, and there is more entertainment to explore.
