Module Fibaro RGBW

Highly anticipated, she is now ready to delight a lot of people. In summary what can be said about the availability of the compatibility of the automation eedomus with the new module Fibaro RGBW Controller box. This micro module allows to control multicolor LED-based lighting. It makes possible their integration in our interiors as well as the management of ignitions/extinctions and the selection of hues through its automation system. Compatibility with the eedomus box is ready! Test preview functionality.

The module Fibaro RGBW

The RGBW module is a stroke of genius of the Polish company Fibaro. Acclamation for this functionality in Z-Wave, she is the only one to offer a microphone module to control LED RGBW (Red Green Blue White) or RGB (Red Green Blue). Its reference is FGRGB-101.

How do you get a band of multicolored LEDs while the LEDs are monochromatic? Just combine several LEDs of different colors to create colorful atmospheres. We can then play on the brightness of each LED to make the mixture of colors using the same principle as the palette of the painter.

Depending on the type of selected LED, we can reach a wide chromatic range with striking colors. By combining, in a same bulb or in a same LED headband, red, green and blue LEDs allowed users to cover all the desired shades. We then get a RGB LED panel. The addition of a white LED to this already existing trio to obtain more powerful pastel colors and a more pure white. It is the banner of RGBW LED.

To control RGB LED garlands need you 3 independent channels. To fly banners of RGBW LED 4 channels are required. Fibaro offers this module although it was bigger that the other modules of the brand but it has a greater number of connections.

Fibaro RGBW module to be implemented in several ways:

1 RGB or RGBW 12 to 24 V device management

Management of 1 to 4 monochrome devices 12-24 V

Follow-up of the consumption of the connected elements

Reading 0-10 V analog sensors

This last feature is not yet implemented in the eedomus box.

The RGBW of Fibaro module allows to modulate the light intensity of the LEDS. It is also a dimmer in addition to offering options ON / OFF classic.

Unlike other micro modules of the brand, it is powered by a DC 12 or 24 v GU10 bulbs on http://www.loverists.com/gu10-led-spotlights_2016_home-accessories/. The ideal is to use the same source as Panel LED should it fly. Then think to take into account this additional consumption when you select your diet. Anyway don’t worry, the module consuming only 0.3 W its impact will be limited.

Support of the RGBW module by the eedomus box

There is nothing special to do in order to associate the Fibaro RGBW module with the eedomus box. The manipulation is classic. Place the box in recognition Z-Wave mode and press 3 times the button located on the module before it is recognized.

By associating the module to the eedomus box you create not less than 7 devices software:

a port component handle the lighting power and the ON / OFF component dela red of LED panel

a port component handle the lighting power and the ON / OFF green component dela of LED panel

a port component handle the lighting power and the ON / OFF beyond component of LED panel blue

a port component handle the lighting power and the it / OFF beyond component of LED panel white

a component to manage predefined colors

a component to manage the lighting power and the ON / OFF overall of LED panel

a component to manage the use of all

By default, the RGBW channel level control is hidden (components 1, 2, 3 and 4). That said, it is possible to view each channel to drive separately, for that simply assign a room or a room or a custom view.

You may want to display them so for example to test custom colors before you assign in the component of the pre-defined colors. Make them visible can be simply wanted to be able to modify at will the color of the light.

The definition of a color in the predefined colors is done very simply. The component “Color preset” is defined with a list of values. To add a color just to add a value in the list. “Gross” will be of the form r, g, b, r, g, b w and w the % in red, green, blue and white to mix in order to compose the desired color.

The component managing the extinction and the ignition of the banner, also allows to set the light intensity of the whole. If the color Magenta was defined as a mix of 100% Red + 100% blue. Wanting to turn on the bandeau in Magenta with an intensity of 30% will result in fact in ignition at 30% of the red component and 30% of the blue component.

The last piece of software created to measure the power consumption of the LED headband that is connected to the module Fibaro RGBW. He is represented in the classic way in the eedomus box.

It’s fun to see that on the LED headband that I used:

the 100% pure blue component consumes 3.5 W

the 100% pure green component consumes 3.6 W

the 100% pure red component consumes 4.1 W

the banner with all the colors in 100% consumes 10.9 W. Consumption announced by the manufacturer was of 12 W

Rules and Macros

As a bonus, but expected no less of this box, 7 software components are available in the rules engine as well as in macros. You can therefore act on your LED banner you like and why not use multicoloured appearance as a visual alarm.

You may want to create a light atmosphere by varying the colors in an automatic way:

The power of the rule of the eedomus engine can be used to take advantage of your multi-color LED lights according to your wishes, desires and… events.

For example, in an emergency, to do flashing red LED Panel, simply create a macro on the software component driving the red color then call it in the rule triggered by the event. In the rule that will launch the macro you have to turn off the colors Blue and green and then run the macro that pilot the red color. The macro might look like this:

Conclusion

The update should intervene in the week making it possible the taking into account of this device for everyone. Team eedomus patient that the update of the iOS application is validated by Apple to make it public. The  portal as well as the Android app are in the starting blocks.                                                                                                               In addition to be able to offer an ease in the piloting of the light environments, this compatibility opens possibilities for feedback “colorful” in order to control visually an activated alarm, a gloomy weather, a left window open, the end of a laundry… Let your imagination guide you!
