#1. Paris
Paris is considered by many to be the city of love. However, it is also France’s main tourist attraction. Every year, many millions of tourists come to the city to visit the many sights of the city. The best known of these are probably the Eiffel Tower but also the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, the Sacre Coeur, the Arc de Triomphe and the Montmartre district, all of which attract millions of visitors each year. The Louvre is one of the most famous museums in the world and has been the most visited museum in the world for many years. More than eight million visitors come to the Louvre every year. This is not surprising when you consider that some of the most famous works of art in history are exhibited here. Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo are among the showpieces of the Louvre collection. Since 2012, a branch of the Louvre has been established just outside the city of Lens. A few kilometers outside the city of Paris is the Palace of Versailles. The former French region of Provence-Alpes- Côte d’Azuris one of the most popular holiday areas in France. The region is located on the Mediterranean Sea, borders Italy to the east and encloses the Principality of Monaco. The capital of this region is Marseille. Other well-known cities in this region are Nice, Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Gap, Montpellier and Briançon. The coastal region of this region is known as the Côte d’Azur or French Riviera. On the French Riviera are some luxurious holiday destinations such as Cannes and Saint-Tropez. The interior of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is known for its fragrant lavender fields. #5. Mont Saint Michel
The tidal island of Mont Saint-Michel is located off the coast of Brittany, but belongs to the Normandy region. The Mont Saint-Michel is about one kilometer from the coast and can be reached on foot at low tide. During the high tide, one can only reach the island via the causeway that leads to the island. Since 1979, Mont Saint-Michel and the surrounding bay have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the Alps on the border with Italy, Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in France at 4808 meters. The rivers Saône, Ardéche and Rhône flow through the Rhône-Alpes. The Ardéche flows through the beautiful natural park of the Gorges de l’Ardèche. The region is best known for its beautiful ski areas such as Les 3 Vallées, Paradiski, Les Portes du Soleil and l’ Space Killy. The most famous ski stations in this area are Val Thorens, l’Alpe d’Huez and Val d’Isére.
#7. Lourdes
Lourdes is the largest Catholic pilgrimage site in France. Every year millions of Catholic pilgrims come to Lourdes to visit the Grotto of Mary. In this cave, Mary appeared several times to the French girl Bernadette Soubirous. Since these appeared in the mid-nineteenth century, Lourdes has become one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe. Several chapels and three basilicas have since been built at the Cave of Massabielle, which is better known today as the Marian Cave. This whole area is known as the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes.

There are more than five hundred castles throughout France. Many of these are still in excellent condition while others have fallen into disrepair over the years. Many of the French castles are located in the Loire area. There are about 140 castles along this river, of which Chambord Castle, Villandry Castle and Chinon Castle are among the best known. The most famous castle in France is the Château de Versailles, built by Louis XIV. During the summer months, many of France’s castles are open to the public and you can take guided or self-guided tours.

Beaujolais, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Côtes du Rhône, Alsace and Provence are the most famous wine regions in France. In total there are fourteen different wine regions in France. The wine regions are divided into several districts that all make their own wine with the typical flavors and characters of the various wines. The wines are divided into different classifications. Until a few years ago, the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée was the best wine in the region. This quality mark has been replaced by the European quality mark Appellation d’Origine Protégée. At the various winegrowers in France it is in most cases possible to taste and buy the local wine.

A few kilometers outside the city of Paris is the most visited theme park in Europe: Disneyland Paris. The park first opened its doors in 1992 under the name Eurodisney. Since 2002, after the opening of the Walt Disney Studios, the amusement park consists of two parts. Disneyland Paris consists of five different themed areas Main Street USA, Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Discoveryland. The park’s most famous roller coaster is probably the Space Mountain. The highlight of a visit to Disneyland Paris is the parade held every day in the Main Street USA.
