#1. Medieval city of Rhodes
On the island of Rhodes is the capital of the same name, Rhodes. The old town of Rhodes consists of medieval fortifications that are a fine example of urban area from the Gothic period. The entire old town of Rhodes is therefore on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Highlights include the Grand Master’s Palace, the Great Hospital and the Street of the Knights. #2. Delphi
The archaeological site of Delphi (Delfi) is one of the most important remains of Greek antiquity. Archaeological Delphi includes temples, treasuries, altars and theatres. The Oracle of Delphi, which was dedicated to the god Apollon, was a very important oracle. The Pythian Games were held in Delphi. Highlights of the archaeological site include the Treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo and the Amphitheatre.
#3. Acropolis of Athens
Centrally located in the Greek capital Athens is the Acropolis of Athens, a table mountain that is visible from much of the city. This upper city has always been the religious core of Athens. On the Acropolis are a number of historical buildings such as the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple of Nike and the Erechtheion. The accompanying Acropolis Museum was completely renovated a few years ago.
#4. Meteora
In Central Greece there are rock formations that have been given a beautiful appearance by wind erosion and water erosion. On these rock formations located in Thessaly are so-called meteora. These are monasteries built on top of the rocks. Over time, several monasteries have been lost. Today, six of these medieval monasteries are still intact, some of which are still inhabited by monks.

#6. Olympia
Ancient Olympia is the place where the Olympic Games originated. Before the Olympics, the flame is still lit in Olympia to eventually travel the world to the place where this four-yearly sporting event is held. Contrary to what is often written, Olympia was not a city. That was because there were hardly any permanent residents. The archaeological site includes various ruins and remains such as the temple dedicated to Hera and the Temple of Zeus. The Olympia archaeological site is open daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
#7. Samaria Gorge
Greece is a great country for hiking. One of the most popular hiking trails is the one through the Samaria Gorge on Crete. This narrow is found in the Lefki Ori Mountains, in the southwest of Crete. The total trip is about 16 kilometers long, which according to many would mean that the Samaria Gorge is the longest gorge in Europe. It is important to start the walk well prepared. The rocky route calls for good walking shoes. Sun and heat protection are also important. Sufficient water in particular is a must if you are going to participate in this hour-long tour. The gorge is open from April or May until about the end of September, depending on weather conditions.
#8. Navagio Beach
Greece has a lot of beaches that are worth mentioning. It is not for nothing that so many tourists travel to various Greek seaside resorts in the summer months. Which beach is the most beautiful or best is of course a subjective opinion to which everyone can give a different answer. A beach in Greece that we think deserves a place in the top ten places of interest in Greece is Navagio Beach. This beach is located in the northwest of the island of Zakynthos and can only be reached by boat. The beach has a sheltered position thanks to the high limestone cliffs. It is one of the most photographed beaches in Greece and perhaps all of Europe.
#9. Athos
The Athos peninsula and the mountain of the same name located on it are a special destination within Greece. Athos is also called the Holy Mountain. The area has an autonomous status within Greece. There are twenty monasteries of the Orthodox Church on Athos, the oldest of which are about a thousand years old. Whoever wants to visit Athos will have to be lucky enough to be one of the ten chosen non-Orthodox men who receive a daily entry permit for Athos. Women are not allowed in Athos at all.
#10. National Archaeological Museum of Athens
Many archaeological finds from all over Greece can now be admired in the
National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Opened in the nineteenth century, the museum has a large collection of archaeological treasures and ancient Greek art. The collection includes more than ten thousand pieces that can be admired within an area of approximately eight thousand square meters.
